This Week’s Class Lit a Fire: The Hidden Story of Lag BaOmer

  • May 15, 2025

This past Wednesday, we explored how Lag BaOmer grew from a simple calendar date into a day of bonfires, music, and joy around the world.

In class, we uncovered the powerful stories behind the day — from the end of a tragic plague among Rabbi Akiva’s students to the mystical legacy of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. His teachings, his passing, and his connection to fire gave rise to traditions that continue to burn brightly today.

Thanks to everyone who joined the learning.

The fire is real — and it starts in the classroom.
