When Logic Fails - and Faith Leads

This week’s Torah portion tells one of the most painful moments in the Torah:

the sin of the spies.

The Jewish people stood on the edge of the Promised Land.

Moses sent twelve spies to scout it out.

They returned with a harsh report:

The land is full of strong nations, fortified cities, giants.

“There’s no way we can win,” they said.

And honestly - it sounded logical.

They weren’t lying - they were describing the facts as they saw them.

They truly believed that entering the land would be a disaster.

So what was so wrong about what they did?

They forgot one thing:

G-d already promised.

And when Hashem gives a promise,

you don’t back out because it looks risky.

You go forward - not because you’re ignoring logic,

but because you know there’s something above logic.

Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants.

But they remembered the miracles. The sea splitting. The manna. The cloud of glory.

And they said: “We can do this!”

Not because they were naïve -

but because they had a deep, clear, lived-out faith in the One who got them this far.

🔹 There’s a kind of faith that comes from not thinking at all.

🔹 But the real kind? It’s the kind that comes after thinking -

when you realize not everything in life is meant to fit in your head.

-

And that’s where this hits home.

In real life, we all face fears. Doubts.

Moments when the brain says, “That’s impossible,” “This won’t work,” “Why bother.”

But if you pause -

and ask yourself: What’s the right thing to do here? What would G-d want from me now?

And if the answer is clear - even if it’s hard, even if it doesn’t seem to “solve” everything -

sometimes you just need to lean into faith.

Because sometimes the mind builds us up -

but sometimes, it’s what blocks us from believing.

And the truth is:

When we truly trust in G-d,

doors open. Strength appears.

Things shift.

We can do this. Even today.
