More Than a Miracle



One Shabbat, the Maggid of Mezritch sat with his chassidim and shared a story about his Rebbe, the Baal Shem Tov.


“It was a regular Shabbat,” he said, “until it ended.”


Right after Maariv, before havdalah, a woman rushed in, pleading:

“Rebbe, I need money to marry off my daughter — I have nothing!”


The Baal Shem Tov turned to his students:

“Reach into your pockets and give whatever you find.”


To everyone’s amazement, the exact amount the woman needed appeared — down to the last coin.


The Maggid asked, “What’s the lesson here?”


One chassid said, “It’s a miracle — we don’t carry money on Shabbat! The Baal Shem Tov made it appear.”


Another added, “And it was the exact amount!”


A third said, “He could’ve made the money appear in his own pocket — but he wanted to share the mitzvah with us.”


The Maggid smiled. “I think this story isn’t about the Baal Shem Tov. It’s about his students. Right after Shabbat, with no reason to expect anything in their pockets — they reached in, without que
