In Loving Memory of Shirley Yasamsky

ree

Written by her son - with love and longing

Shirley Yasamsky didn’t chase status - she pursued meaning.

After raising her children, she returned to college to fulfill a lifelong dream: to become a teacher. She took the bus to Whitman College each day, earned her degree, and went on to teach and uplift countless children with warmth and joy.

Her love for education never faded. Even after retiring, she continued to give, guide, and care deeply for her family and community.

That legacy lives on:

Her son David, here in Virginia Beach, is a child therapist who also runs a business - yet continues to devote his time to helping children heal and grow.

Her other two children are a teacher and a social worker - all in fields of service, all following her example.

Even David’s daughter, Hannah, is now a teacher herself. Teaching isn’t her main source of income - it’s her mission. Like her grandmother, she teaches out of love.

The message Shirley left us with is simple and powerful:

Live with purpose. Give with heart. Love what you do.

May her memory be a blessing.
