This week’s Torah portion, Ki Teitzei, contains more commandments (mitzvot) than any other portion in the entire Torah, 74 in total. Ki Teitzei, is part of Moses’ final talks to the people before entering the Land of Israel. It’s less about miracles, less about laws between us and God, and less about building national systems and more about real life: how to create a fair, healthy, and compassionate society between one another.
What’s in the Portion
• War and Humanity how to stay human and ethical even in moments of rage and conflict.
• Family and Community respecting family bonds, setting fair rules for inheritance, and finding guidance when things get complicated.
• Social Justice returning lost items, protecting the vulnerable, and caring for those in need.
• Honest Economy no cheating in trade, no crushing interest on our brothers and sisters.
• Collective Memory recognizing that evil exists, like Amalek, and not giving it any room to grow.
The Big Idea
Ki Teitzei reminds us that a strong, values-driven society is built on small, daily choices respect, fairness, kindness, and asking ourselves, “What’s the right thing to do here?”
It’s not just a list of rules it’s a roadmap for building community and living a life of meaning.
